Question:

A hernia on left side of male 85 years old

Answer:

Age by itself is not a contraindication to hernia surgery. We have successfully performed hernia surgery for patients in their 90's. We have also seen patients in their 90's develop strangulation of their hernias and require emergency surgery. It is much safer to repair a hernia electively, before it becomes an emergency, particularly in this age group.

My clinical experience has been that good functional status and lack of frailty are indicators of low risk for elective surgery inspite of age.
