Hernia above navel

Can a hernia happen just above the navel?

Yes, a hernia above the navel is called a supra-umbilical hernia or an epigastric hernia. They arise in the linea alba at points where blood vessels or nerves perforate the fascia. These tend to be small hernias but can be very painful.

The linea alba is the fascia between the rectus abdominus muscles in the middle of the abdomen When this fascia streches and the abdominus rectus muscles spread out this is called a diastasis rectus.
