Yes. I have never had to give a hernia patient blood. I can comply with the requests of Jehovah's Witness patients in good conscience and no I do not require a waiver. I have successfully taken care of many Jehovah's Witness patients in critical condition over many years. I fully respect their faith and position regarding blood transfusions. Even with my other non-Witness patients I avoid blood transfusions if humanly possible. As a surgeon I have made it my business to be very knowledgeable of the risks of blood transfusions such as increased risk of surgical wound infections and adverse effects on cancer survival. I have successfully treated Jehovah's Witness patients with Hgb as low as 3.2. Also by the way, the risk of serious bleeding in hernia surgery is very low.
