Do women get inguinal hernias?

Yes. Actually inguinal hernias are the most common type of hernia in women. The anatomy of the inguinal canal in women is remarkably similar to men. Women do not have a spermatic cord but the have an analogous structure called the round ligament which follows the same course thru the internal ring, thru the canal and out the external ring. The round ligament is a suspensory ligament for the uterus. Femoral hernias are related to inguinal hernias. They are rare but they are more commonly seen in women.
