Emergency hernia surgery?

A strangulated hernia is a surgical emergency and if not corrected in a timely manner can be fatal. It is much better to repair a hernia before it becomes an emergency. If you get emergency surgery you will probably not be given the option of no mesh. If you are paying out of pocket emergence hernia surgery is very expensive. Non-mesh non-emergency hernia surgery is very economical in comparison.

A strangulated hernia is a strangulation of bowel. Untreated it will in a matter of a few short hours lead to perforation of the bowel which leads to peritonitis, then septic shock and then death. Repairing a hernia electively removes the risk of strangulation.
