Preop hernia surgery

How do you prepare a patient for surgery?

Step 1: Medical interview by telephone to confirm the diagnosis before the patient travels here and to answer patient questions. Step 2: Preop examination in our office with EKG and blood tests the day before surgery. Step 3: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery. Step 4: Preop the patient one hour before surgery at the surgical center. Nurse will ask medical questions, take vital signs, confirm the the planned surgery and place an IV. Anesthesia doctor will interview the patient. Surgeon will confirm the intended surgery and answer last minute questions. Preoperative antibiotics will be given by IV in preop. Then surgery.
