I am having pain at the site of my 3 year old hernia repair, why?

Pain at an old hernia repair long after healing is either delayed onset of mesh pain or a hernia recurrance. Mesh causes chronic pain in 20% and hernias recur in 10% to 2%. If you develop pain anytime after hernia surgery chances are that you have mesh pain. Making the diagnosis of a recurrance based on pain alone with is a very common surgical mistake that I observe in patients who consult me.

  •   I am having pain at the site of my 3 year old hernia repair, why?
  •   I am in North Carolina. Does that make a difference?
  •   I am more concerned about general anesthesia than surgery. What are the risks?
  •   I am still constipated 2 days after hernia surgery. Is this serious?
  •   I have a sloshing sound when I push in my hernia. Does that mean its getting worse?
  •   I have been told that my hernia is inguinal and femoral. Does it matter.
  •   I have cirrhosis of the liver stage 2 with a hernia on my belly button which I think is infected. What can I do if doctors will not touch it?
  •   I have great anxiety about my upcoming surgery.
  •   I have pain after hernia repaired with mesh. No bulge but my surgeon wants to reperate to fix hernia again. Is it a good idea?
  •   I have pain in the area where I had double hernia surgery approximately 8 years ago, when they repaired my stomach with mesh. Is it possible that I would have a problem now?
