Local anesthesia for hernia repair
Only in third world countries are hernias repaired with straight local anesthesia. Every where else local means local with conscious sedation. The patient is partially awake. We do not like this technique because 20% of patients will experience and remember pain during the procedure. In addition, local with conscious sedation is not safer than general anesthesia.
