What causes hernias?

Hernias are caused by an injury to abdominal fascia. Fascia is the strong layer of tissue of the abdominal wall which holds the intestines in. The injury may be caused by stressing a naturally weak part of the abdominal wall that you are born with or creating a weakness by preforming an operation which requires cutting the abdominal wall.
